Where we eat at:

Working in Clerkenwell Green and being the Food + Drink team is a match made in heaven. Farringdon has overabundance of infamous foodie destinations all of which tempt our tummies all throughout the day.

Breakfast:

Granger & Co - 50 Sekforde St, London EC1R 0HA

How could we not begin with a restaurant which is situated literally within our building? The Aussie health-boosting cuisine from restauranteur Bill Granger is frequented regularly by team members both during the week and on weekends. Their ricotta hotcakes with banana & honeycomb butter are unbelievable sweet sensations for the early morning or alternatively their ‘fresh aussie’ comprising of tea smoked salmon with poached eggs and greens is helping our summer body prep enormously.

The Modern Pantry - 47-48 St John's Square, Clerkenwell, Greater London EC1V 4JJ

Located on St. John’s Square, the brightly lit modern casual dining space reminds us of Scandinavian décor and delectably fresh cuisine. If you’re in a rush you can pick up breakfast from the pantry which has a range of handmade jams and pastries. If you’d rather have a more relaxed start to the day you can sit in and try the range of liquid goodness (the turmeric, ajowan & ginger tonic packs a punch and cures any cold) and have a proper British breakfast of a Hot Cross Butty or Eggs & Soldiers.

Caravan - 11-13 Exmouth Market, London EC1R 4QD

A personal favourite of the team who have been on many excursions not only to this branch but to the one in Kings Cross, Caravan offers a well-travelled breakfast to its punters. Their baked eggs with tomato pepper ragout and merguez sausage fills you up for hours, and their coconut bread, poached rhubarb with cream cheese and lemon curd is a sweet way to begin the day.

Lunch:

Chick - 19A Leather Ln, London EC1N 7TE

Chicken and falafel. What more could you want? Located on the hustle and bustle of Leather Lane, their pittas and salads drenched in chilli oil and tahini are at least visited once a week by someone on the Food + Drink Team. If you just want a snack, they serve bags of 6 x falafel for £1!

Daddy Donkey - Pitches 100-101 Leather Lane Market, London, UK

Our MD Ian made a shout out for this entry, located also on Leather Lane. Self-described as ‘kick-ass Mexican grill’ their burritos and salad boxes pack a punch but make very happy staff in the H+K offices. Serving beef, pork and chicken, queues often form down the whole of Leather Lane so get there early to avoid them.

Moro - 34-36 Exmouth Market, London EC1R 4QE

During the day, the restaurants of Exmouth Market all come out to host a mini-food market and showcase their incredible menus for cut down prices. Moro, a Southern Mediterranean restaurant serving up delectable Spanish, Moroccan and Saharan cuisine, serves a daily changing dish throughout the week. Team favourite is spiced lamb, served with couscous in a flat-bread and lathered in yoghurt all for £5.

Dinner:

Coin Laundry – 70 Exmouth Market, London EC1R 4QE

A 70s revival bar serving proper comfort food, it will delight any lover of chicken Kiev, chips and gravy and cauliflower cheese. Serving delicious cocktails too, the restaurant really emphasises people’s playful sides, encouraging you to play games, share food and remember the way things used to taste.

Pizza Pilgrims - 15 Exmouth Market, London EC1R 4QD

Anyone who has tried the Pizza Pilgrims in Soho will be super excited that we have had one open just around the corner from our offices. A simple menu offering simply delightful toppings makes this one of our quick-bite favourites. With an atmosphere reminiscent of Italian deli’s, the cheap wine and limoncello is makes for an Italian feast.

Foxlow - 69-73 St John St, London EC1M 4AN

Part of the Hawksmoor family, Foxlow serves delicious steak, slow-grown herb fed Yorkshire Ross chickens (fried in delicious sandwiches) and perfectly crafted cocktails. Self-described as ‘the kind of restaurant we would like to live near’ the restaurant is great for an intimate, meaty meal.

Places to watch:

Sosharu - 64 Turnmill St, London EC1M 5RR

Opening only this month, giving none of the keen Food + Drinkers time to try it, comes Jason Atherton’s authentic Japanese restaurant, Sosharu. An izakaya-style restaurant described as serving ‘casual yet refined’ Japanese cuisine, the floor to ceiling glass windows have had us all peering in, desperate to catch a glimpse of the beautifully crafted sushi dishes it beholds.

The Albion - 64 Turnmill St, London EC1M 5RR

Currently a building site, the Albion is due to open next to Sosharu over the next few months. Part of the award winning Prescott & Conran name (mainly known for The Boundary and Les Deux Salons), the Albion will be a café, restaurant, craft beer shop and bakery; I can hear our tummies rumbling already.
