What we've been up to this week: 17 June + Cannes News
This week we were fully immersed in the throes of the Euro 2016 tournament. The tournament’s start was marred with incidents of hooliganism, splashed across the media. On the pitch things were more positive and after a draw and a win under their belt England fans are all feeling pretty confident going into the final group game.
On Monday, we invited Chief Political Correspondent from the Financial Times Jim Pickard to round off our series of talks on the EU referendum. Jim gave us a candid look back at how the campaigns have unfolded, his thoughts on the outcome of the vote, and his predictions regarding our future relationship with the EU.
In our weekly Technology Speculators session we were excited to have the analytical geniuses from Tubular Labs join us. They left us in awe at the shed loads of online video data they have at their disposal; allowing brands to identify the latest trends, measure levels of engagement and understand the viewing habits of audiences across the globe. They are definitely at the forefront when it comes to analytics and they possesses incredibly powerful tools for brands.
Over the last week, our Energy + Industrials team launched the tenth edition of the flagship Global Peace Index report by Institute for Economics and Peace. After careful planning and messaging training for their spokespeople, the team set about filling two days of embargoed interviews for the Executive Chairman, Steve Killelea, in order to launch this year’s findings and raise the IEP’s profile. The launch day was filled with broadcast interviews including Deutsche Welle and various BBC divisions.
Leading the H+K global network in the US, India, UAE, Spain, Colombia and Germany, requests came in from all over the world including the Financial Times, Washington Post, El Mundo, Die Welt, BBC, Vice and hundreds more. Given the data-heavy nature of the report, the team made sure they were doing special outreach with data journalists in order to create visually impactful pieces of content and tailored infographics appeared on The Week and Daily Telegraph, with The Economist also in the pipeline.
We topped off the launch by arranging a meeting for Steve Killelea with the UK government’s International Development Committee, followed by hosting an exclusive event on behalf of the IEP in The Lord Speaker’s River Room at the House of Lords, where the guests heard reflections on the report from The Lord Speaker Baroness d’Souza, Lord McConnell and Lord Alderdice.
Cannes Lions News
The end of this week marks the start of Cannes Lion 2016, and we’re more than excited! We can’t wait to see some of the sessions, catch a glimpse of the celebrities attending, go along to the fringe festival and hopefully pick up an award (or two, or three!).
In celebration of our favourite festival on the PR/Advertising/Communications calendar, here’s a sneak peek of what we’ll be up to over the coming week:
H+Kers on the ground in Cannes will be tweeting, blogging, vlogging and instagramming their experiences under the hashtag #hkcannes. They’ll also be doing a takeover of our website during the week, so make sure you bookmark the page to get the latest news from the festival.
On Tuesday 21st June our Director of Strategy and Publishing Vikki Chowney will be at Twitter beach talking to the folks at Twitter live on Periscope. Vikki will also be giving her thoughts and views on the week from her blog. On the same day we’ll be hosting our Refresh + Reload session at the Haymarket Hive Cabana.
Alongside our WPP Partners we’ll be at WPP Stream to debate the future of creativity and technology. Make sure you keep checking back to find out what's going on at Cannes.
For now it's: Bonne chance et à bientôt à Cannes!
